VACUUM PRESSURE IMPREGNATED TRANSFORMER

Vacuum Pressure Impregnated Transformer (VPI) is a process which is a step above the conventional vacuum system. VPI includes pressure in addition to vacuum, thus assuring good penetration of the varnish in the coil. The result is improved mechanical strength and electrical properties. These transformers are used in installations within the building premises, crowded and urban areas, overloaded feeders, near to the load centre or even outdoors where there is oil theft.

This type of transformer is made with minimum flammable material as insulation of windings. The primary and secondary winding with core are laced safely within a vacuum protective box. For dry type transformers there are two types of cooling methods:

• Air Natural (AN)
• Air Forced (AF)

The main features of insulation are to provide dielectric strength and to be able to withstand certain thermal limits.

The insulation class could be F or H.

• 180⁰ C for class H insulation
